It looks like the metadata has been updated with track titles for http://www.archive.org/details/furthur2010-12-31 but none of the files have the tagging? Can these be re-derived so that the lossy files have tags? It would be nice to add the tags to the FLACs as well. Although this would change a FLAC file md5, which is not included, I'm pretty certain that it does not impact the WAV md5, and know that it doesn't impact the FFP, which is based on the WAV audio data only.

Also, is this the correct place to make such a comment? I wouldn't want to comment in the reviews unless my comment could be deleted after the files were updated.

Thanks for your efforts, terrapin joe and lou.

I also just realized that something is wrong with the current derivatives. VBR MP3s are typically ~25-30% the size of the FLACs and OGGs are typically about half that. The existing MP3s are ~50% and the OGGs ~60% of the FLAC file sizes, so something definitely isn't right.

cwier,

i initially upped the flacs and this is my first archive post so please forgive me for mistakes made. secondly when i upped the lossless, the following morning the mp3/ogg sources to my knowledge hadnt appeared yet so i upped 320k mp3 CBR and level 10 ogg to push the stream thru not knowing i initially had to force that option...

No need to apologize. I was just trying to help get it right and hope I didn't step on anyone's toes. I was wondering why the files were listed 3 times, and that explains it. Uploading to the archive is nice because it does all the work for the lossy files (as long as you don't check/uncheck the box to not allow it to derive lossy copies). After you uploaded, it would have created the metadata from your text file, after which you would have edited to make the tracks match the song names since your text file didn't have matching song names & tracks; e.g., it couldn't figure out Help/Slip/Franklin's = d4t02-4. Maybe you unknowingly disabled the deriver or maybe it was just overloaded and hadn't gotten to your files yet (although it usually only takes an hour or so).

Thanks again for sharing a great recording of a wonderful show!

the first time i upped it i created the folder as the LMA instructs you to do, then log to the ftp and that part was fine, so i proceeded to load the flacs as is. the wav md5's are primarily in the fileset cause of the SBE Free Status. i hashed those as soon as i finished tracking the show and sbeok in cdwav? when was the last time you seen that CW? lol

anyhow i uploaded all the files and it failed deriving, it failed loading. some error fubar'd the work and when i logged back into the ftp to see what was up, the folder(furthur2010-12-31_2011-01-01 yada yada yada)was GONE. it did allow me to create a new directory right there in ftp and even change the permissions on it to 777 after i finished but that didnt work either. a day or so later and still no result in the listings, so i went into flash mode and must have overlooked the derive button/box there(if its there, i wouldnt be able to tell you yet) and this time around it obviously only uploaded the lossless flac so the following day after no stream/download only i decided to take charge and upload a transcode from flac to mp3 CBR/320kbps & ogg level 10 to force the stream. i hadnt realized that the LMA does it for you if its done right. anyways thanks charlie, much appreciated and to answer the question in email, foobars live show tagger? i just started using it as i discovered it yesterday so my next entry will be flawless to say the very least. anyhow thanks for the feedback, the support, the friendship & happy 2011 to you and yours...

Hey TJ - you actually did a pretty darn good job for your first upload...just one thing tripped you up. Right after you hit "Submit" after putting in all the show info (venue, source, etc.) you went back in and tried to edit the show again. That interrupted the derive process, which creates all the mp3/ogg files and the flash player.

In the future, if you see something like that happen again - where it takes more than an hour to create the derivatives - drop us a line at etree@archive.org and we'll fix things up for ya!

Hi - thanks for letting us know. Posting here is fine, or leaving a zero-star review on a show is another good way to send up a red flag, as they tend to stand out on the "recent reviews" when we see them. You can edit reviews after the fact by simply leaving another review - your initial one will be replaced by any follow-ups.

It looks like the mp3/ogg files got derived out of whack with the rest of them, so I've blown them out and queued up a re-derive. Give it an hour or so and it should be done!

Yes, it sucks. I don't bother with shows that cannot be streamed or sampled before deciding to download them. It's a waste of time and usually disappointing...

See greenone's response above - "so I've blown them out and queued up a re-derive. Give it an hour or so and it should be done!" Hopefully, you can start over in a little while (and get smaller, tagged lossy files).
